After living in Michigan for the last fourteen years, upon our retiring we had finally decided on moving back to Missouri, since my wife and I are both from the southwest Missouri area. We had taken our time on trying to decide where we wanted to build, but had not made a final decision until we sold our home in Michigan. After selling our home in October 2009, and planning on retiring the next year, we decided it was time to make a final decision. We had talked with other builders, but we just did not get that “warm and fuzzy feeling” that we like to experience when dealing with certain folks. I had made a few contacts with people I knew in the Springfield area, one being a commercial architect. One morning, I got a phone call from him and he indicated he had just the right builder for me. He mentioned Rick Ramsey of Ramsey Building.
My wife and I contacted Rick, and decided right then we had found the builder we wanted to use. Now, keep in mind we were 700 miles away, and asking a builder we did not know to build us our retirement home without us being able to go over each evening to inspect what they had completed on a given day. We chose to work with Rick Ramsey because he was trustworthy, very particular, and we felt that he would keep us informed, regardless of the distance we had to deal with during the construction process. Rick always called us on decisions that needed to be made, or changes that he felt we needed to make. Sure, we made some trips down to Springfield, actually visiting the construction site on a monthly basis. I do not recall one time that I needed to talk with him about any item I felt was not up to our standards.
This home was the third one we had built over our working lives, so we knew what to expect during the construction process. You always know when building a home that the builder is only as good as the sub-contractors he hires. From the time the framing started until the final carpet was installed and we moved into our new home, the quality, professionalism, and craftsmanship were superb.
My wife, Connie, and I could not be more satisfied with the final product. Rick really cares about his work, and it shows. After moving in and going through all the little things that you need to take care of during a move, we noticed people would ask “who built your home?” When we responded “Rick Ramsey”, 100% of these folks said “Oh….he is a great builder!” We agree, and strongly recommend Rick Ramsey of Ramsey Building Company to anyone building a new home, or even remodeling an older home. When asked to describe Rick Ramsey and his team, the first two words that come to mind are “professional” and “caring”. Throughout the complete building process, Rick was easy to communicate with; if, on occasion, I was unable to reach him immediately by phone, I could be certain that he would call back promptly.
Rick’s team and subs were always on time, if not early, to the job. I’ve joked with Rick that this was great, except for making it difficult for me to procrastinate. I could be sure that if they were scheduled for Wednesday, they would be there on Wednesday (or maybe even Tuesday!), not a day or two later as is often the case.

I was fortunate to have Rick Ramsey be willing to take on building my guest house, which was designed to fit in a very small and intricate space. He was absolutely wonderful to work with, in that he was efficient, thorough, creative, communicative, and had great employees.

In addition, he had to coordinate with a pool company building a pool along side of the guest house. Rick and his employees were always good about working things out.

My fiancée Jessica and I did not know Rick before we started the building process, but we have grown to trust him, and would definitely now consider him a friend. I’m sure you’ve heard many times (as had we) that building a home is one of the toughest things you can do in life, but our experience was nothing of the sort. Part of this can be attributed to the fact that we had a very good sense of what we wanted in a home, but I believe the rest is due to Rick’s organization and building process. In fact, that was one of the reasons we chose him; from the first time we met with Rick, he showed us the spreadsheets and organized procedures that he employs, and kept us regularly updated along the way.
Rick’s original bid seemed a bit overwhelming, but we appreciated the detail, and in the end, there were no surprises and no additional “nickel and dime” items that pushed the budget up. In fact, even after we upgraded several items and made some additions we didn’t originally plan on, Rick was able to complete the build a month early and right on budget. We are extremely happy with the end product and Rick’s incredible attention to detail. I know this may not mean much coming from a complete stranger, but I would, and have, recommended Ramsey Building Co. to my close friends and clients who trust my opinions on a routine basis.
